| Taxes
With unemployment surpassing national predictions,
more and more families are forced to do more with less. Why
should your Government be any different? When residents see
the out of control spending at the national and state levels,
its no wonder their trust in elected officials has all but
evaporated. We need to do better.
Throughout Kurt's seven years on the Board,
Elgin Township has remained less than 1% of your total property
tax bill. Simply put, that means for every dollar you pay
in property taxes, Elgin Township receives less than a penny.
We remain one of the lowest taxing bodies in all of Kane County.

Despite
the low tax levy, Elgin Township continues to fully fund its
obligations to both the General Assistance and Emergency Assistance
programs assisting our community's poor and indigent populations.
Since 2009, Elgin Township has increased its funding of local
social service funding to compensate for the state of Illinois'
delinquencies.
Kane
County isn't immune to the nation's economic problems. Much
like the federal and state government, Kane County is facing
a spending problem. Simply put, we spend too much, and the
tax payers feel the brunt. While our home values are dropping,
taxes have increased. Kane County deserves better from its
elected officials.
When
hardworking residents are forced to cut back their expenses,
so too should our elected officials.
Kurt
proposes freezing the current tax levy as an immediate step,
while the new County Board reviews all current spending and
finds ways in which to cut waste. He opposes "gimmick"
tax cuts such as the proposal to cut taxes for a single year
by eliminating the capital funding. These types of gimmicks
are based on political maneuvering rather than sound fiscal
management, and have no place in government. We also need
to review the overall capital plan for the county, assessing
how we can better utilize existing facilities.
